OUR STORY

We are Jane Todd and Sarah Cripps. We are sisters who both trained  as home economists, gaining degrees from University of London and Leeds University . We have had busy, successful careers in the food industry and in the NHS - teaching cookery, nutrition and healthy eating within school and NHS settings, and developing food products for national companies.  In 1999 we established our cookery school, 'Pattacakes' and we were at the forefront of identifying the lack of cooking skills in children. A need that was later picked up by the UK's media and celebrity chefs.

Our social enterprise - The Kitchen Front CIC- was established in 2016 to teach older people, disabled groups, and those on a low budget. We were  fortunate in being chosen to participate in the Lloyds Bank Social Entrepreneurs programme and were able to develop our community activities with the help of this scheme.  As The Kitchen Front we have been teaching members of the community who wish to benefit from our straightforward simple teaching style that brings cookery to everyone whatever their previous knowledge or skills.

Since the beginning of 2020 we have been very excited to bring you our newest venture - The Kitchen Front Bakery -a microbakery and grocery store selling delicious sourdough and yeasted breads and other goods created by us in our certified home kitchens. As an endorsement of our skills we have qualified as 'Bread Angels' - Bread Angels are part of the Virtuous Bread Network and are  trained bakers who are dedicated to bringing real bread to the community ( as identified by the Real Bread Campaign).  As part of our belief that everyone should be able to cook and create dishes that can be shared and enjoyed by many, we also run specialist workshops in artisan breadmaking skills and other areas of cookery that celebrate traditional cooking skills.
